"The Worry Song" is a song featured in the 1945 film Anchors Aweigh with music written by Sammy Fain and lyrics by Ralph Freed. In the song, Jerry Mouse (voiced by Sara Berner) appears as the ruler of a kingdom where music is banned because he feels he lacks talent, and Joseph Brady (played by Gene Kelly) persuades the mouse into performing a song-and-dance number with him.
Lyrics[]
Joe:
If you worry, if you worry
If you bother your head
Jerry Mouse, spoken:
I do
Joe:
It won't help you, it won't help you
It will hurt you instead
Jerry Mouse, spoken:
It will?
Joe:
Grouchers, groaners, cranks and moaners
They're so unfair
Jerry Mouse, spoken:
I know
Joe:
If you can't be gay and merry
Lock yourself in solitary
Though it hurts you, though it hurts you
Be a pleasanter guy
You may even learn to like it
If you give it a try
Jerry Mouse, spoken:
I'll try
Joe:
You could laugh and sing and dance
As gaily as an elf
But don't expect to get much help
If you don't help yourself
Will you try?
Jerry Mouse, spoken:
If you show me
Joe, spoken:
I'll show you
Jerry Mouse:
I'll try
Joe, spoken:
Good!
One, two, three, four
Jerry Mouse:
One, two, three, four
Joe:
One, two, three
Jerry Mouse:
One, two, three
Joe:
La-la-la-la-la-la
Jerry Mouse:
La-la-la-la-la-la
Joe, spoken:
You see?
Jerry Mouse, spoken:
It's easy!
Look at me! I'm dancing!
